We are excited to announce that the @mohumanities Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant of $10,000 to Caregivers on the Homefront in support of the project, "The Weight of Honor". The MHC is the only state wide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
THE WEIGHT OF HONOR is the first comprehensive documentary to chronicle the lives of the caregivers and families of veterans who have been catastrophically wounded in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The film’s subjects are five spouses and one mother 1 who give a rare glimpse into their lives, as everyone grapples with finding a ‘new normal’ after the devastating effects of war time injuries. Filmed over five years, in many states, this journey reveals the thoughts and struggles of the caregivers tasked with the 24/7 care of once able-bodied and self-assured sons and husbands, but are now dependent on others. The life of the caregiver is often unsung and hidden.
The film reveals disrupted lives, ongoing uncertainties, and the courage and strength of these women as they make a new home during the most calamitous time of their lives. Included are key interviews with veterans who are now serving in congress and experts who give their insight into the new reality of what it means for a wounded warrior to come home.
Caregivers on the Homefront is honored to be a grant recipient of MHC and we look forward to showing the Weight of Honor throughout Missouri! #Missouri #hiddenheroes #caregivers #military #veterans

Caregivers play an important role in the health and well-being of Veterans. The Caregiver Support Program offers training, educational resources, and multiple tools to help you succeed. Eligible Veterans of all eras may benefit from these services, under the Program of General Caregiver Support Services. Call toll free 1-855-260-3274 to learn more.
As part of the VA MISSION Act, we’re working to increase access to the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), which is now only available to eligible Veterans injured in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001. VA is not currently accepting PCAFC applications, for other era Veterans. For information and a timeline of the expansion, please visit: https://missionact.va.gov/.

November 5, 2019 Shawn Moore is presenting at the 2019 Rosalynn Carter National Summit in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving establishes local, state, national, and international partnerships committed to building quality, long-term, home and community-based services. We believe this begins with providing caregivers with effective supports to promote caregiver health, skills and resilience. We also believe strongly in the need to provide greater recognition for professional and family caregivers. We focus on helping caregivers coping with chronic illness and disability across the lifespan.

The conference, which will take place November 7 through 10 at the Chicago Marriott O’Hare, 8535 W. Higgins, will bring together those who currently care for a family member and those who previously cared for a family member. In addition, professionals who work with family caregivers and those interested in family caregiver issues will join us. “It was an amazing experience to connect with warm, compassionate caregivers and to hear their stories,” says an attendee of our Third Annual National Caregiving Conference. “It was unlike any conference I have ever attended.”
Shawn Moore is the Second Annual Caregiving Visionary Award Winner. She is being recognized for developing and implementing an innovative way to support family caregivers. She provides support for family caregivers in a way that makes the caregiving experience better and easier inspiring others to make a difference.
